For me this film felt like is was conceived by a focus group. Perhaps with some feedback from families who took in the first Despicable Me project. Individual parts were dreamed up, and then they were forced into a three act story structure. For the most part, those individual parts do keep the kids entertained, but there isn’t much in this for the adults who have to pay for that trip.
If you have kids, they are likely going to love this so go ahead and plan that trip to a movie theater to enjoy the bright design and flashy visuals. If you’re an adult that just likes cartoons (like me), I’d wait and rent the DVD.
Best viewing format:
The kids will enjoy this on the big screen. Later, unless the Blue Ray version of the film has some special features you simply must have, I’d spend a little less and get the kids the DVD. The lack of HD isn’t going to be missed when you’re viewing simpler character features of a animated flick.
Best moments for me:
When the minions do – anything. They are entertaining to watch.
