Event Horizon (1997)

Event Horizon 1997Starring: Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill

Directed by: Paul W.S. Anderson

Written By: Philip Eisner

Rating: R (US) Running Time: 1 hr 35 min

Two Cents:

This plays out like a collection of ideas taken from better movies, which then shoe horned into a sci-fi horror ghost story. It’s a shame they took that route too, because the creative energy behind this film could have been used to produce something quite interesting. What we get though is an assortment of cheap attempts to shock the viewer, and by the last act everything turns into ludicrous gore fest.

Movie Prep:

If you’re looking for a good science fiction story you’re in the wrong place here. If however, you are looking for a mindless gore fest – welcome aboard the Event Horizon!

Best viewing format:

The effects and production design are pretty good, so a matinee or HD home show are recommended.

Best moment for me:

The crew traveling to find the Event Horizon almost crash into it as it orbits Neptune. The shot as Event Horizon is revealed looks pretty spectacular.
