I would say for the first fifty minutes, what we have in Men In Black is a near perfect science fiction comedy. It’s loaded with fun inventive ideas, great dialog and excellent performances from its two leads Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. During the last act however, it looses a little creative steam, but that shouldn’t discourage you from checking this out.
If you connected with movies like Beetlejuice, and enjoy the humor in Douglas Adam’s or Terry Pratchett’s books. You’ll probably enjoy this to.
Best viewing format:
The production design is so good I would suggest a digital big screen showing. A HD showing at home is recommended.
Best moment for me: << very mild spoiler >>
Edgar (Vincent D’Onofrio) is loudly berating his wife as we watch on from outside their farm house. Edgar’s truck is also in the shot. As Edgar’s rant continues, we see an object flying towards the farm. As Edgar’s rant ends with his declaration that the only thing that pulls its weight around the farm is his truck. The UFO smashes into the truck cutting it in two. On hearing the explosion we cut to a close up of Edgar opening the front door. After seeing his truck is destroyed, he simply says, ‘figures.’
