Several very decent individual Avenger movies culminate beautifully in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. It comes together so perfectly. Nicely paced, fun characters, dramatic yet fun. My only complaint about this film, and it’s a very small complaint, is the Acura product placement! It’s one thing to issue Shield agents company Acuras – that’s acceptable. But when Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye run out of a freshly crashed plane into a war zone – right past an undamaged Acura SUV that takes up half the shot, that’s taking it a bit far.
This is so well put together I think even if you haven’t seen any of the movies leading to this one, you’ll still have a good time. If you have seen Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk etc.. All the better for you.
Best viewing format:
This is a full price big screen film. Something you’d enjoy watching with a crowd. 3D, not really worth it in my opinion. For me the 3D made these larger than life superheros smaller some how. Instead of bringing the dimension forward toward you, it seemed to push everything further away. Almost like watching the stage version of the film. You’ll enjoy the movie just as much if not more with a 2D viewing, and save a little cash too!
There are a few really cool moments, but the one I enjoy the most is when the Hulk grabs Loki by the ankle and repeatedly slams him into the floor. I laugh every time I see that.
Jon Bruton’s two pence:
There’s not much more you could ask for from a super hero movie. Witty dialogue, big set pieces and lots and lots of things getting smashed! That all the characters get, not only balanced screen time but get their own story and development, is what makes it a success for me.
