Two Cents:

I am not in the habit of rating films 5/5 stars. So when I do, you know that I wasn’t just entertained by The Little Prince, I was moved. This tale of conformity versus imagination, death and childhood, got under my skin. I was pulled in by its magic and charm, and really impressed by the CG and stop-motion animation.

As an allegory for the more impactful moments in our lives—loss, love, death, childhood and growing up—The Little Prince perfectly hits its mark without ever becoming too preachy or too ambiguous. This is artful but not artsy-fartsy, and while some segments may be a little slow for younger audiences, the time developing the story’s characters and themes is well spent, and pays off during the closing moments of the film.

I personally was 100% invested in The Little Girl’s (Mackenzie Foy) journey because the creative talent behind this film (and the original book) took the time to properly introduce her. The Little Girl’s motives and challenges are well established, and she was someone I could root for. This is what separates the good movies from the great ones. That magic that lets you forget where you are, or what you have planned for your day. The Little Prince was a truly absorbing experience that stayed with me long after the film’s closing credits.

Movie Prep:

Expect a somewhat slow start and be patient. This film makes great use of both CG and stop-motion animation, and has a superb cast.

Best Element: << mild spoiler >>

I really enjoyed The Little Girl’s adventure during the finale as she searches for The Little Prince. I also loved the fox!
